I’ve been mildly irked because I hadn’t heard from Matt in a couple of days… the rural town in Scotland he lives in (Huntly) has very crappy internet connection (as the internet company told him over the phone, “We don’t put masts up for cows!”) so often his internet will go down for several hours or even a day or two.

Still, I haven’t received so much as a text from him, which got me worried, and I just found out 5 minutes ago that Huntly has flooded and been evacuated!!!!!  Needless to say, I’m freaking out with worry, and Matt’s phone is off, so I’m unable to learn anything so far.

Does anyone over in the U.K. know anything about the flooding, or what they’ve done with the evacuees?  I’m sure that if he was anywhere with internet availability, he’d have contacted me already.  Are they being put up in hotels?  Are they being told to stay with family?  Does anyone know???

Thank you guys so much, in advance.  I’m so worried about my man  :`(

  1. Am keeping both of you in my thoughts and hoping that Matt is safe, and for you – that you’ll be able to “feel” him safe.

Apparently this is the second round of bad flooding in a week and has shut down rail and bus travel stranding many people. There has only been 1 injury/death and that is an elderly person from a nursing home according to the BBC.

It may take a couple days before he can contact you. From the photos it is a soggy mess.

I know they will have moved them inland – he is probably in a community centre or hotel – I’ll keep the local radio on all day I’m working from home and if I hear anything ping you …….
Scotland is very beautiful but very wet and when the weather changes it’s very extreme – its pouring with rain in London but not to that extent ……

Bri, get contact with someone with a ham radio…. i think they still use them in case of emergencies. (right?) they can get messages back and forth through the ham radio networks globablly….. but, maybe with internet this is defunk…. i was in a hurricane in the Caribbean 20 years ago and it is the way I got information out to friends and family. just a one sentence message. (i am safe.)

Sorry, I don’t know anyone over there who would know, but I second the beliefs that he was moved inland to a community center or hotel. Hang in there, Bri! I’m sure he’s safe and anxious to talk to you.

I’m sorry that I can’t help with news, but I can offer prayers and well wishes. I’m sure he’s fine and trying to get in touch with you. I hope you hear from him soon.
